What are your thoughts about Kagan Structures?

I love the fact that EVERYONE must answer. As the students get used to this new way of answering, it will become easier and easier. If we all jump on board and use the Rally Robin (or any other) then when I try to use it in the library - or volunteers use it in art - everyone knows what we mean and goes straight to the content. I could have used this on my Theme lesson!

I already used it in my classroom today! (Mix-Pair-Share) All of my scholars were engaged and had so much fun mixing around the room with music, high fiving a partner and sharing their favorite thing about Easter. They can't wait to do it again and that is when you know they are engaged!

I have to admit, at first I was frustrated because it seemed like it was going to be a sales pitch... with an order form at your seat and a catalog but I was able to get passed that and really saw the value in the structures. Our team purchased a few items and I looking forward to implementing Kagan this week!

I really, really enjoyed the training. It made a lot of sense to me. Actually, I was think we should consider approaching next year as a "Kagan pilot" year. We could put WOW on the back burner for a year go "all in" with Kagan methods and see where it gets us. Since the district will really be pushing continuous improvement next year it seems the two (Kagan & Continuous Improvement)naturally compliment each other.

With our young scholars, the Kagan structures aren't just good for content, but also for sharing. Our students love to share but have a hard time sitting and waiting their turn. I have one that cries if he doesn't get called because it is so important for him to share. With these structures, we can allow everyone to share in a short amount of time.

I had a great time at the workshop on Friday. I have had Kagen training before, and I have been using some of the structures such as Eye partner and shoulder partner. I look forward to using more of the structures now.

I have had Kagan training before, but this was far better. Everything we learned is usable right now in class. I also think that the structures hold all the students accountable, while allowing them to feel safe in taking risks and pushing themselves a bit out of their comfort zones. I'd much rather make a mistake in front of my "partner" than I would in front of a whole class. I'm interesting in spending time becoming more familiar and comfortable with the structures we covered in the workshop, as well learning new techniques that will enhance the learning in my classes. Add this to the list for summer!
